A solo piano version of a song from way back in the catalog - "Feeling Strangely Fine" originally appeared on 2000's "Good Luck Stranger" record.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Back in 1997 I released a (now out of print) record called "Next Door To Nowhere", it's a stripped down, low-key, mostly acoustic record. One of the songs from that record, "Closing Time", was a staple of my live... sets back then. Then a year later, Semisonic's hit song of the same title was everywhere on radio & TV. It's from their album "Feeling Strangely Fine". So, on a whim I wrote "Feeling Strangely Fine" - as a kind of joking response: if they take a title of mine, I'll take one of theirs. Plus, there was no song called "Feeling Strangely Fine" on their record. (But I loved the title). Months later, I had a very pleasant email exchange with Dan Wilson of Semisonic saying he dug my tune and the story behind it. btw: "Made To Last" from that Semisonic record still gives me chills.

Semisonic's drummer (a Harvard grad, don't hold it against him) wrote a fascinating book on the record industry machinations and the things that really makes a song a "hit" - and we're not talking music or hooks here!

So, if you're ever at a party and someone says to you "Cream always rises to the top" you might tell them to have a look at that book. Or, tell them what my friend T. Sean rightly points out "Turds float, too." ;)
